Late Gothic monastery

Late-Gothic monastery volume from the monastery of St. Petri in Merseburg. Rare and best preserved, complete incunabulum with the preaching collection of Petrus de Palude (around 1280-1342) in a South German masterclass: "Sermones Thesauri novi de tempore". Printed in Strasbourg, printer of the Paludanus, 1486. ​​In two-column, gothic type with 48 lines. A large hand-painted initial in red and blue on the first sheet of paper as well as several initials in red. Leaf size: 29.5 x 20.5 cm. Completely, 352 not num. Sheet. In the original, late-Gothic calfskin cover over massive wooden covers from a southern German workshop (probably Augsburg or Strasbourg). Richly embossed lid. Rectangular and diagonally connected pastel lines as well as large pomegranate stamps in the middle boxes. Outside a border with embossed stamps and banner "maria hilf". Back rest restored in the 18th century, covered with pig leather and with gold-embossed leather back cover. Two intact, renewed in the style of the time. Good to very good condition. Front inner joint restored. Lid somewhat stained and rubbed, as well as some sausage holes. Back more rubbed. Paper in very good condition. Clean and wide margins. Evenly only slightly browned. Upper outer margin partially weakly watery. Continuously a few wormholes and worm marks in the edges and singled in the text. Only the result is a small loss of letters. Monastery of St. Peter, probably the Benedictine monastery of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul at Merseburg. The monastery was dissolved in 1544 and the important stock of the monastery library was scattered. The remainder of the book inventory is largely unknown. Worldwide complete only in 50 libraries.
