Illuminated leaf from Gratianus Decretum, printed by Peter Schöffer, Mainz, 1472. Unique, very early incunabulum from the Decretum Gratiani with the Glossa ordinaria of Johannes Teutonicus in the treatment of Bartholomaeus Brixiensis. The work is considered to be one of the most important religious books. Two-column printing with interline arcs (explanatory text inserts), 80 lines. Sheet size: 47.3 x 33.3 cm, set of pages: 36 x 26 cm. With gorgeous, gold-plated initial "Q" in rose and white, on the left ending floral vine in colors and 4 Goldpunktierungen as well as with numerous initials in red and blue. In the upper margin with handwritten chapter numbering. Good condition. Solid handmade paper with watermark. Strong pressure. Wide margins. Leaf in the upper area with color blurring at the initial and water edge.
