Gouache painting

Rare gouache painting, absolutely unique pieces! The very fine and vividly painted pictures were painted on thick hand-made baroque wallpaper with linen texture. Very beautiful and masterful depiction of high medieval scenes, on closer inspection the many gilded details such as spurs, bridles of the horses or ornaments on the weapons stand out. The two pictures probably belonged to a picture cycle! Modern, elaborate and high-quality framing in real wood, gilded, anti-reflective and light-rejecting museum glass, acid-free passe-partout and back wall in museum quality. Very good condition, in a picture was probably set in 1920 below a piece to match the image to the size of the other image.

These two pictures are expressly not for example. colored historicism prints or the like but around rare hand-painted originals.

Dimensions per picture 80cm x 70cm.

I have shown the two gouaches to two professionals for old books, incunabula and woodcuts. I then received this report / assessment:

E I N S C H E N C E R E P O R T

We were presented with 2 gouaches for evaluation. The inspection took place in the unframed state. The following information is based on the notes made during the visit.
ARTIST Unknown
OBJECT Two baroque gouache paintings with high medieval knight scenes
TECHNOLOGY & IMAGE CARRIER Tempera or pigments on baroque wallpaper
GERMANY, probably first half of the 18th century
EVALUATION & CHARACTERS Detailed, vivid painting style in bright colors.
Form design in the typical style of the 16th or early 17th century.
Very beautiful and masterful representation of high medieval scenes.
On closer examination, the many gold-raised details such as spurs, bridles or ornaments on the weapons stand out. The two images probably belonged to a cycle of several representations. The filigree elaboration of the details, as well as the coloring suggest stylistically an attribution to the 18th century. The fact that both gouaches are painted on textured paper, most likely on baroque wallpaper, supports an attribution to the 18th century, we think, probably between 1700 and 1750.

These are undoubtedly authentic paintings, not hand-colored prints.

CONDITION Good to very good condition. Partially rubbed some colors. In one of the two gouaches, later (probably 20th century), a larger piece was applied in rough retouching below to match the picture to the size of the other picture.
