With some of our collectors and castle friends, we did a castles and cities tour through Ireland this year 2018. Our idea of Ireland was a little different and the reality than we thought. We started from a similar landscape of castles and dense as in Scotland. But Ireland has relatively few well-preserved castles and only a few ruins. Even the cities don't have that rustic and medieval impression as in Scotland. We therefore only want to recommend the castles that are really worth seeing. One stop was the pretty old town of Kilkanny. However, the castle was not particularly interesting for us, because it has often been rebuilt and many of the furnishings date from the 19th century. So not for fans of the Middle Ages! In the old town we found a very nice house "Rothehouse" from the 16th century. The whole house with several inner courtyards is a museum. Some furniture and utensils are shown and the rooms are designed almost like a small castle! There is also a beautiful garden at the back! Take a look at the pictures. The museum is well worth a visit!
